Got an error during setup regarding libdrm2 library that I easily fixed following instructions in this post : http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?60545-Upgrade-install-issue-libdrm2
After upgrade to 12.10 :
- Right click / Window resize-move : fixed
- Wifi performance : seems to be fixed since kernel 3.6 (source : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AsusZenbookPrime)
- External HDMI Monitor detection : still not working (I have to mention that I also installed Bumblebee (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee))
Regarding The HDMI issue, it seems it's a known issue for optimus cards.
In fact, it seems that the HDMI port is actually attached to the nvidia card but HDMI is not currently supported with Bumblebee.

Fellow ux51vz linux user here. The mini VGA port works out of the box for extended monitor for me. I'm running Mint 14, which is nearly identical to Ubuntu 12.10 in most ways, so 12.10 *should* work as well.

Hi Jason, thanks for your comment. I confirm that the mini VGA does indeed work on a VGA monitor. However, my issue is that my external monitor only has HDMI inputs... and I don't want to purchase a vga -> hdmi converter (that also requires power) when an HDMI connector is just... there! ;-). There are some workarounds using 2 sessions and synergy but I do hope that the HDMI issue will be fixed at some point...

Any idea how to gain access to fan controls?
ReplyDeleteI cannot seem to get any sensor detection for the UX51.
